Custom garage cabinets and storage

Garage cabinetry made in the Edmonton area and installed by the same crew that measured it. Built for a room that swings from thirty above to thirty below, carries more weight than a kitchen ever will, and gets dust, salt and solvent on everything.

A garage is not an indoor room, and it should not be built like one

Most garage storage sold around Edmonton is kitchen cabinetry with a different door on it. That is why it fails. An attached garage in this climate can move forty or fifty degrees between a February morning and an August afternoon, and the humidity swings with it. Standard cabinet materials take up that moisture, swell at the edges and stop closing properly, usually within two winters.

The loads are different too. A kitchen upper carries dishes. A garage upper carries paint, tools, a chainsaw and four winter tires, and it is often anchored to a wall that was never blocked for it. The shelf spans, the carcass thickness and the fixings all have to be specified for that, not borrowed from a kitchen drawing.

What we build for garages

Full height cabinets for tools, chemicals and seasonal gear, with doors that lock where you want them locked. Base runs with a work surface that can take a vice and a grinder rather than a cutting board. Upper cabinets set high enough to clear a vehicle door and a roof box. Open shelving where you want to see what you own, closed where you would rather not look at it.

Tire racks, ski and quad storage, a drop zone by the house door, and a bench built to the height of the person using it rather than a standard one. Where the garage doubles as a workshop we plan the power and the lighting into the layout instead of leaving you to run extension cords afterwards.

What actually survives an unheated garage

Material choice is most of this job, so it is worth being plain about it. Standard MDF is the wrong answer in a garage that is not heated year round. It handles a stable indoor room well and it does not handle a February to August moisture cycle. Melamine over a moisture resistant core, plywood carcasses, and a finish specified for the swing all cost more at the outset, and they are the reason the doors still line up in year five.

Hardware matters as much. Drawer slides rated for the load, hinges that hold their adjustment through the cold, and a levelling system that copes with a floor sloped to a drain. A garage floor is rarely flat, and cabinetry scribed to it on site looks better and lasts longer than cabinetry shimmed to it.

What happens after you get in touch

Send the garage measurements, the ceiling height, and a photograph of the space as it is now, mess included, because the mess tells us what you are actually storing. Tell us whether the garage is heated and whether a vehicle lives in it through the winter. From that we come back with a layout and a range before anyone asks you to commit to anything.

We measure on site before anything is cut, we manufacture locally rather than ordering it in, and our own crew installs it.

We build garage cabinetry across Spruce Grove, Stony Plain, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Leduc and Edmonton. If your garage is in one of those, the site measure and the install are handled by the same people who built the cabinets.
